Yamamoto® Nutrition Ultra Whey COMPLEX Volactive® comprises concentrated whey proteins and Volactive® Ultra Whey XP isolate, obtained through cross flow ultrafiltration and microfiltration. Importantly, it excludes collagen and other elements that may compromise the product’s quality and bioavailability (VB). This complex offers a delicious beverage with over 23g of protein*, derived from concentrated whey protein and isolated through cross flow ultrafiltration and Volactive® Ultra Whey XP microfiltration, maintaining a 50% ratio of isolated Volactive® Ultra Whey XP to 50% concentrated whey. Notably, Ultra Whey COMPLEX is free from palm oil, maltodextrin, xanthan gum, carrageenan, and amino acids in free form, as indicated on the label.

What are whey proteins isolated by cross-flow ultrafiltration and microfiltration?
Whey Protein Isolate (WPI) undergoes specialized treatments to eliminate higher quantities of fat and lactose. By definition, WPI has an average protein content of 90%, though the protein density can range from 86-88% or higher. Microfiltration, the most costly isolation process, preserves the integrity of bio-active protein fractions, crucial for protein quality. During this process, ultrafiltrated whey undergoes progressive filtration using membrane filters, eliminating unwanted particles like minerals, lipids, and lactose. The resulting microfiltered proteins are 99% undenatured, maintaining essential bio-active peptide fractions of undenatured whey.
What are concentrated whey proteins?
Concentrated whey proteins (WPC) are obtained through micro and ultrafiltration processes, using physical filters to separate fat and lactose from the protein without causing damage. The differences between the two processes are minimal, depending on the size of filtration pores. This method yields a powder with a protein content ranging from 70-85%.
Modern concentrates now contain up to 70-80% protein with reduced amounts of lactose and fat, a significant improvement from the first-generation whey protein powders, which contained 30-40% protein and higher levels of lactose, fat, and undenatured protein.
While some may consider WPC inferior to an isolate due to lower protein content, a high-quality WPC contains unique compounds absent in isolates. This includes higher levels of growth factors, various phospholipids, bioactive lipids such as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and increased immunoglobulins and lactoferrin.
